Tragedy struck a Henry County community when an 8-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car while attempting to board her school bus Thursday. The child, identified as Adalynn Pierce, was crossing a two-lane street when 25-year-old Kaylee Andre, failed to stop for the bus that was fully halted with red flashing lights and an active stop sign, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Despite the crushing loss, Adalynn's mother, Ashley Pierce, offered a message of forgiveness to the woman responsible for her daughter's death. Ashley witnessed the horrid incident herself, yet, according to 11Alive, she stated, "When the accident happened, she stayed by my side the whole time. She's the one who called 911 for me, and she just kept screaming how sorry she was and how sorry she was."
Adalynn Pierce, a student at Rock Spring Elementary in McDonough, has been remembered for her vibrancy and kindness, traits echoed by family friend Alexa Wright who described her as "so full of life and joy, she was so beautiful and sweet," to FOX 5's Deidra Dukes. In the wake of this calamity, the heart-wrenching detail emerged that Adalynn's last act of grace would be the donation of her organs, extending the gift of life to eight others and aiding 75 children with tissue donations.
The accused, Kaylee Andre, faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide in an emotional court appearance where no cameras were allowed. Nonetheless, Mrs. Pierce maintains that what happened was a mistake, one that could, have been made by anyone, sharing, "Law enforcement has said she has been nothing but cooperative the whole time. It was a mistake. Anyone could have made the same mistake," in an interview with 11Alive.
To honor a young soul gone too soon, Adalynn's family encourages those who knew her and those moved by her story to focus on her love for life and the joy she spread during her tragically brief time on earth.
