Two suspects were nabbed by Hercules police on Monday afternoon for alleged drug violations and child endangerment after a theft tip-off led officers to Home Depot. According to a Hercules Police Department Facebook post, the police intervention occurred at approximately 4:24PM when the officers responded to the theft-in-progress alert at the local Home Depot.
The suspects, who were accosted as they left the store and headed to a Chevy Cruze illegally parked in a handicapped spot with a running engine and an unattended infant on board, were not strangers to law enforcement; one of the individuals was known to the police as being on Felony Probation for Robbery, which prompted an on-the-spot probation search of the vehicle encountered large quantities of marijuana packaged for sales and promethazine without a prescription label. Both suspects were then promptly arrested, with charges not only extending to suspected drug violations but also to child endangerment after the Hercules Police officials assessed the scene.
The child left precariously alone in the car, was safely transferred to a family member who arrived at the scene following the escalation of events. The officers, not yet done with their due diligence, moved to execute a probationary search of the residence of one of the suspects in Hercules; this further search revealed yet more damning items: a significant stash of marijuana, an unregistered Micro Draco Assault Weapon, and an unregistered Pistol found within the confines of the home, expanding the scope of charges to include illegal firearm possession.
The two suspects, whose names were not disclosed in the initial Facebook report, were booked at Martinez Detention Facility on various firearm and marijuana charges.
