In a routine traffic stop that took a surprising turn, Hercules Police nabbed two individuals riding in a gray 2008 Hyundai Sonata without license plates, only to discover a trove of drugs inside the car. According to the department's Facebook page, a search led to the seizure of 306 grams of suspected marijuana along with smaller divided quantities and a scale, suggesting an intent to distribute.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of February 14, when a diligent officer initiated the stop that soon evolved into a probable cause search. Found were not only significant amounts of the green stuff but also a stash of cash in the possession of both the driver and the passenger, hinting at a more extensive underground operation. The two were arrested on the spot and provided with a one-way ticket to the county jail.
But the plot thickened as the suspects were processed. Local deputies unearthed an additional wrinkle under the passenger's pants—an estimated 30 pills of what is believed to be Oxycodone. This added to the charges facing the passenger already in hot water for the earlier finds.
Hercules PD has remained tight-lipped about the identities of the individuals or specifics regarding their charges. However, the quantity and packaging of the drugs, along with the paraphernalia found, speak to a narrative all too common in our city streets.
