MILTON, Ga. - The suburban landscape is set for a makeover as the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) takes its Highway 9 broadening project into Milton, hot on the heels of its Alpharetta stretch. This substantial endeavor aims to expand a 3.04-mile segment up to the Forsyth County line, with construction expected to persist through to the end of 2027, as reported by the City of Milton's official announcement.
At a preconstruction meeting earlier this week, GDOT officials delivered the blueprints for the next phase; the agency gave Vertical Earth, the contracted company, a "Notice to Proceed" for the imminent construction work which includes, not limited to, utility relocation, sidewalk construction, tree removal expected to occur fairly early on, road widening and landscape grading, this according to the City of Milton.
This extension project is more than just turning asphalt and dirt though, as it intersects with the City's aesthetic aspirations, they are looking to add a stacked stone veneer that’ll dress up the concrete walls running adjacent to the upcoming new sidewalks on the highway – an addendum awaiting a final nod from GDOT before the Milton City Council ratifies a funding deal for this beautification effort.
Despite not being the conductor for the day-to-day operations—the City remains in close talks with GDOT aligning on various aspects of the project, and they've vowed to stand by the local businesses and residents shaking hands with this vital passage while it undergoes its transformation, should you have any queries about this transport revamp ballgame, GDOT Project Manager Ashley Bassie is at the ready at [email protected], the City of Milton encourages reaching out.
