A car crash on Aldine Westfield Road turned ugly when an alleged drunken driver got into a tussle with a law enforcement officer. The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office reports that deputies were called to the scene of the collision on January 28, 2024, where they encountered motorist Jeffrey Johnson who appeared to be under the influence.
Constable Mark Herman's deputies conducted the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests after they noticed signs that Johnson was not in his full faculties, it turned out that indeed the man was not fit to be behind the wheel as he was found to be intoxicated, however, things took a turn for the worse when he was being handcuffed. According to the constable’s office, Johnson didn't take well to being arrested; he resisted and then went on to assault the deputy trying to detain him.
In a statement obtained by Constable Mark Herman’s office, "Jeffrey Johnson was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Assault of a Police Officer." The courts wasted no time in responding to the incident, setting Johnson’s bond at $5,100.00 out of the 209th District Court.
This isn’t just another case of DUI – it's a stark reminder of the dangers police officers face during routine arrests, on that night a deputy could have sustained serious injuries due to the perils inherently tied to their line of work it underscores the risks that law enforcement officials encounter on a daily basis.
