Houston police have slapped charges on a man accused of a shooting that sent bullets flying and left another man wounded on Leffingwell Street last month. The suspect, identified as Joshua Jose Escobar, 30, is now on the lam, facing aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as the city grapples with a surge in gun violence.
The shooting took place in the wee hours, around 1:25 a.m. on January 23, sending a 24-year-old male, with lead in his legs, to the hospital in stable condition. According to the City of Houston News, the incident was a result of a heated verbal dispute between the victim and his girlfriend, which escalated when an acquaintance of the girlfriend's, Escobar, pulled a trigger, striking the man multiple times. The duo then ditched the scene in what witnesses described as a dark sedan.
Investigators from the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division, Detectives V. Gamez and E. Gunn, pieced together the night's events, placing Escobar at the center of the fray. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has since rung up charges against him, yet Escobar's whereabouts remain unknown, with police efforts to track him down continuing.
