A suspect has been locked up for the fatal stabbing of a man in Houston last month, authorities said. The Houston Police Department reported that 48-year-old Deric Adams has been charged with murder, in connection to the deadly incident that occurred in the early hours of Jan. 15 at 500 Fannin Street. According to a news release from the city, Adams was nabbed on Thursday (February 1) and is now cooling his heels in the Harris County Jail.

The fatal altercation which left an unidentified man dead from multiple stab wounds, was first responded to by officers around 3:30 a.m., when they received a report of a stabbing in progress. The arriving officers discovered the male victim, lifeless, laying on the street, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased by paramedics.

After the incident, witnesses informed detectives from the HPD Homicide Division that the victim had gotten into a heated argument with another male, a dispute that tragically unfolded into a lethal confrontation. Following initial questioning by detectives G. Zavala and A. Hernandez, the suspect, later identified as Adams, was released, the district attorney's office referred the case to a grand jury, which led to the subsequent charge of murder being filed, states the news release. The identity of the victim is still pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
