The National Weather Service predicts today's cloudy skies with temps barely hitting the 50 mark, accompanied by northerly gusts reaching up to 30 mph. Tonight, the clouds are expected to scatter, leaving a chilly low near 37 degrees in their wake.
The city's weather conditions will not improve overnight, as the gusty winds continue to blast through the area. The NWS Houston's post on X warned of hazardous seas across the bays and Gulf waters. Following the cold snap, Sunday promises a respite with sunshine and a high near 57 degrees, but north winds of 5 to 10 mph will persist.

Looking ahead to Washington's Birthday, the forecast offers warmer temperatures with a sunny high near 66 and a gentle south breeze. The warming trend is expected to continue with Tuesday's high reaching a comfortable 76 degrees, followed by a low around 59 in the evening, signals the gradual departure of the chill from the region.
No severe thunderstorms are forecast across the contiguous United States for Sunday, as stated by the Storm Prediction Center. This calm weather pattern is due to strong cyclonic mid-level flow centered over Quebec, extending from the Upper Midwest through the Northeast. In contrast, a mid-level shortwave trough initially hovering over the lower MS Valley will move east across the Southeast.
The forthcoming week hints at more sunny skies and even higher temperatures for Houstonians, with Wednesday and Thursday reaching highs near 79 and 81 respectively. While the night temperatures remain partly cloudy with lows dipping into the 50s and 60s. Friday will still be sunny but temperature is set to slightly dip down again, possibly signaling an end to the temporary warmth with a high near 71. Despite the cold start, it seems Houston's winter may slowly be loosening its grip.
