A Texas woman bolted from a routine traffic stop in Houston only to be hauled back by the cuffs after a brief chase, authorities said. LaKendra Spraggins was nailed for evading arrest when she peeled out to avoid having her ride towed, according to law enforcement officials.
The incident sparked off on February 11, when a deputy from Constable Mark Herman's office flagged down Spraggins' vehicle on the 1700 block of North Sam Houston Tollway West. That's when things took an unexpected twist. After being informed her vehicle was set for towing, Spraggins allegedly made a break for it, jumping back into her car and hightailing it from the scene with deputies in hot pursuit, posted Constable Herman's office on Facebook.
But the freedom was fleeting for the female fugitive. The chase proved short-lived as law enforcement closed in. "LaKendra Spraggins was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Evading in a Motor Vehicle. Her bond was set at $2,500.00 out of the 262nd District Court," Constable Mark Herman detailed in a statement.
Herman's office did not provide details on why Spraggins' vehicle was on the hook for tow. The 262nd District Court has set a bond for Spraggins, who now faces the legal music to the tune of a couple grand.
