Monday Brings Heat Before The Weather Turns
Mostly sunny skies will dominate the morning, while isolated showers and thunderstorms could develop after noon. The rain chance is 30%, and most of Houston may stay dry, with light southeast winds holding near 5 mph.
That quiet forecast comes with a bigger Gulf Coast concern developing offshore. The National Weather Service says a low-pressure system near southeast Louisiana could become a short-lived tropical depression or tropical storm before reaching the Upper Texas coast Tuesday or Tuesday night.
Tuesday Looks Like The Week’s Wettest Day
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to become widespread Tuesday, with an 80% chance of rain, mostly cloudy skies and a high near 91 degrees. Temperatures could fall into the mid-80s during the afternoon as rain moves through, while the heat index may still reach 102.
Some areas east and southeast of Houston could see 1 to 3 inches of rain, with higher localized totals possible if the heaviest downpours stall. Forecasters are also watching for brief heavy rain rates that could create street flooding, while stronger gusts are possible near the coast and in Chambers County if the system tracks nearby.
Storm Chances Continue Through The Weekend
Rain chances ease somewhat after Tuesday but do not disappear. Houston can expect scattered showers and thunderstorms each day from Wednesday through Sunday, with highs generally near 90 to 92 degrees and overnight lows in the upper 70s.
Anyone with outdoor plans should keep a backup option handy, especially Tuesday. The heaviest rain may be uneven, but a dry morning can still turn into a soggy commute or a fast-moving downpour later in the day.
Ozone Alert Covers Houston On Monday
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has issued an Ozone Action Day for the Houston, Galveston and Brazoria area. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality expects ozone levels to be highest during the afternoon and early evening, when heat, sunshine and light winds combine.
People with asthma or other respiratory conditions, along with children, older adults and outdoor workers, should limit prolonged strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. Carpooling, avoiding drive-through lines, reducing idling and conserving energy can also help limit pollution.
