The Washington Commanders have secured John Glenn as their new assistant special teams coach. Glenn's addition marks the completion of the coaching lineup for the team in 2024 under the helm of head coach Dan Quinn, as confirmed by the Commanders' official website.
Glenn is poised to bring a wealth of experience to Washington, specifically from his notable stint with the Seattle Seahawks. From molding an impressive linebacking corps to ascending the coaching ranks, his twelve-year tenure with Seattle has prepared him to rapidly help improve the Commanders' special teams. As an assistant special teams coach, Glenn is now tasked with transferring his defensive expertise to excel in the multifaceted world of NFL special teams. According to the official Commanders website, Glenn's work with star linebacker Bobby Wagner stands out, as Wagner led the NFL with a remarkable 183 tackles in 2023.
Before his move to the Commanders, Glenn held the position of linebackers coach with the Seahawks and has a history with Quinn, who served as the Seahawks' defensive coordinator from 2013 to 2014. Quinn's move to head coach of the Commanders reestablishes a professional reunion between the two. Glenn's promotion to linebackers coach in 2018 culminated in a steady climb from initially starting as a special teams coaching assistant in 2012, reported Sports.
In the span of his career with the Seahawks, Glenn showed his ability to elevate players, guiding the transition of Jordyn Brooks to middle linebacker. With Carroll moving on from being the head coach of the Seahawks, Glenn now has a new landing spot with the Commanders under Quinn," noted ClutchPoints
