The cosmic spectacle of a total solar eclipse is set to darken the skies over Kerrville, and the city is prepping parking plans for hordes of sky-watchers descending on April 8 for the celestial event of the decade. Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department has announced details for the Kerrville Eclipse Festival, as described in a statement obtained by KENS 5.
Festival-goers are being advised on where to stash their cars before joining the viewing party at Louise Hays Park, the event promises live music, scientific talks, and four minutes worth of midday twilight. Those hoping to snag a nearby spot at Tivy High School can do so to the tune of $60 per vehicle, until March 11, when the price jumps to $100, this according to a press release by the City of Kerrville.
All parked and geared up at Tivy High School, eclipse buffs will be shuttled to the main event, starting at 8:00 a.m., while no lallygagging is allowed – shuttles go off-duty during the natural phenomenon. There is some solace for the wallet-conscious with a free parking gamble available; spots are up at the 201 Clay Street parking garage, on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Meanwhile, the Kerrville Sports Complex will be playing parking lot host to those less festival-inclined but eclipse-eager, the location is dangling the promise of ample green space and basic amenities for an unencumbered view of the sun taking an interstellar backseat to the moon. It's positioned for easy access off I-10 and a surefire reserved spot for your chariot—information found on the City of Kerrville’s official website.
