A man from Kimball Township is now in custody after embarking on a reckless escapade that involved crashing through security gates at two separate law enforcement offices and leading police on a wild chase. Anthony Gigliotti, 24, allegedly started his day by ramming his vehicle through the gated entrance of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office early Thursday and didn’t stop there. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, he proceeded to do likewise at the Port Huron Police Department before law enforcement could properly respond.
Authorities said that Gigliotti's blue Chevy pickup caused "extensive damage" when he forcefully entered the gates at around 6:20 a.m., a statement supported by a Facebook post from the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office. The drive then boldly led officials on a pursuit spanning the county. The chase included a dramatic conclusion with the deployment of stop sticks which eventually halted his vehicle, mentioned a source from The Times Herald.
Following his arrest, Gigliotti was arraigned with a string of charges including two counts of fleeing and eluding, two counts of malicious destruction of police property, operating under the influence, concealed weapons violation, and reckless driving, according to CBS News Detroit. The judge set his bond at a significant $250,000 cash/surety.
Post-arrest procedures included Gigliotti being taken for a blood draw to McLaren Port Huron, to substantiate the charges of operating under the influence. The incident, which caused no injuries according to officials, is still under an active investigation to fully understand why Gigliotti was determined to commit these dangerous acts. Law enforcement continues to piece together the events that unfolded in this unusual onslaught against their secured premises.
