A Lakeside High School student tragically lost her life while two others are nursing injuries after a single-car accident in DeKalb County over the weekend. The DeKalb County Police Department has confirmed the fatality of 18-year-old Sophie Lekiachvili, identified by the DeKalb County coroner, who passed away at Grady Memorial Hospital following the incident. The crash is said to have occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday on Oak Grove Road, near Kirkland Drive. Investigations to fully understand to unfold the cause are still ongoing.
The school’s community has come together in the wake of the accident, with students gathering yesterday afternoon to lay flowers and comfort one another near the crash site. In a show of support, Lakeside High School has reached out promptly to offer assistance through their administrative and school counseling teams, as outlined in a letter to the Lakeside Viking families. "Everyone reacts to death differently. As a family, we encourage you to talk with your child about this incident to help them to share their thoughts and reactions," Lakeside Principal Susan Stoddard wrote in a letter obtained by WSBTV.
