A Los Angeles community is reeling after the death of a young boy in Lancaster, as reported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Authorities were called to the 43400 block of 57th Street W on Tuesday at around 10:55 p.m., according to a press release LASD Homicide Detectives Responded to a Death Investigation.
Homicide detectives are now chasing leads in what has become a homicide investigation. The juvenile victim, found with a neck laceration, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead, as the Sheriff's Information Bureau shared. Adding to the chaos of the night, discovered at the scene and suffering from his own medical emergency was 39-year-old Rena Naulls, identified as the live-in boyfriend of the victim's mother and a person of interest, though he later attempted to take his own life.
The investigation, spearheaded by Lieutenant Daniel Vizcarra, is aiming to stitch together the narrative of events on that night. While the suspect's identity remains unknown, no arrests for the juvenile's death have been announced at this time. "There is no additional information available at this time," Hoodline reported.
While Naulls was admitted to a local hospital in stable condition after attempting to take his own life, the remaining three children in the home have been taken into protective custody by the Department of Children and Family Services. The Sheriff's Department has called on anyone with information about this tragic incident to come forward and assist them in their ongoing efforts.
