In a determined crackdown on rampant retail pilfering, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Burglary detectives have apprehended a group of suspects at the FIGat7th shopping complex. According to a LAPD press release, the bust went down on February 7th at the downtown plaza, which has been suffering daily losses into the thousands due to consistent thievery.
The operation, described as a “blitz,” saw law enforcement officers swarm the FIGat7th Plaza at 7TH Street and Figueroa Street to address the escalating issue. Nine individuals, including a juvenile, were nabbed for shoplifting, grand theft, and commercial burglary. Among the items seized from this group was a security alarm tag remover, indicating a level of premeditation in their activities, LAPD's statement elaborated.
A total of eight adult suspects were listed by the department, accompanied by booking numbers – a spectrum of alleged offenders ranging in age from 19 to 47. Some of these suspects were subject to book/cite and release under the Los Angeles County Felony/Misdemeanor Bail Schedule, while others had pending warrants complicating their situation further.
Jose Cano, Emilia Micoi, Ana Marie Gandac, Carlos Dominguez, Luis Amaya, Richard Green, Justin Carter, and Jesse Lamb now face the legal consequences of their actions while a minor, whose details were withheld, is processed through the juvenile system. In light of the arrests, the LAPD is calling on the public for any information relating to retail theft incidents. Tips can be submitted through various channels including a direct call to LAPD Central Burglary Theft Detectives, Crime Stoppers, or through the “P3 Tips” mobile application, the department urges.
