A Lawrenceville bakery owner was fatally shot on Saturday morning in front of his business, Fejzic Euro Bakery, stirring shock and grief in the local Bosnian community. The shooting occurred just before 7 a.m. at the bakery located at 259 Scenic Highway, reported the FOX 5 Atlanta.
Lawrenceville Police Department officers responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a man in the parking lot with several gunshot wounds. The 37-year-old was pronounced dead at the location. The mistake in authorities' initial reports regarding the victim’s gender was later corrected, clarifying the victim as a male, according to information by WSB-TV.
Detectives remained on site throughout the day to review the crime scene and surveillance footage, seeking witnesses that might shed light on the events that led to the bakery owner’s death. Friends and members of the tight community have remarked on the man's upstanding character. "He was a quiet guy, a family guy like I said, he just had his second baby born…it was for everybody shocked," Elvis Sinanovic, a friend of the victim, told FOX 5 Atlanta.
Kenan Mustic echoed this in an interview with WSB-TV, saying, “I’ve known the family for 20 years. You always ask yourself why bad things happen to good people and this is one of those instances. It came as a shock. The whole community is shocked,”
Meanwhile, Mary Hollowell, who has operated an adjacent antique shop for more than two decades, expressed her disbelief, noting the rarity of such an incident in what is considered a generally safe area. "I’ve never felt unsafe walking in and out of here, but it can happen anywhere, I guess unfortunately for the young man," she stated to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The identity of the bakery owner has yet to be officially released as police work to notify his next of kin and seek a motive for the homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
