A Lenox Township man faces manslaughter charges after allegedly stabbing his younger brother to death during a family altercation, Macomb County officials reported yesterday.
According to The Detroit News, 24-year-old Nathan Land was arrested after sheriff's deputies arrived at the 57300 block of Millstone Pond Boulevard late Sunday evening. A witness was attempting CPR on Land's 19-year-old brother, before emergency responders took over, ultimately pronouncing the man dead at the scene.
Charged with homicide - manslaughter, a charge that can lead to up to 15 years in prison, Land's arraignment took place in the New Baltimore District Court. Magistrate Joseph Cozzolino set the bond at $100,000 cash/surety with no 10% option.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, in comments obtained by FOX 2 Detroit, said, "This incident is a reminder that the cycle of abuse within families can escalate to unimaginable tragedies. Our pursuit of justice is unwavering as we strive to bring solace to the grieving family and send a resounding message that violence within our homes, will not be tolerated."
If Land posts the bond, he is ordered to remain in Michigan, wear a GPS tether, and is prohibited from contacting the witness or consuming drugs and alcohol. Hoodline reported additional restrictions include no possession of weapons and not leaving the state. Further court appearances for Land include a probable cause hearing on February 8 and a preliminary exam on February 15.
The identity of the victim and further details of the incident have not been released as the investigation by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office continues. The sheriff's office is withholding information pending further investigation, public information officer Jennifer Putney stated to WWJ Newsradio 950.
