A wandering tot found alone on the streets of Loganville has been safely returned to her family after police sought help from the public to identify her. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Loganville police officers discovered the girl, approximately 2 or 3 years old and possibly named Shanti, walking near GA Highway 81 yesterday morning.
The dilemma sparked a social media campaign by the Loganville Police Department to find the young girl's guardians. After their public appeal earlier this morning, officers were able to get in touch with a grandparent, and family members have since been reunited with the child. The LPD expressed their gratitude, stating, "We greatly appreciate the help of the community in helping locate this child's family," in a statement obtained by Atlanta News First.
Authorities believe the unaccompanied minor managed to leave her residence without the knowledge of her family members. Initial efforts by the police to locate the parents were unsuccessful, which led them to turn to the Department of Family and Children Services for assistance. The LPD's swift action to use social media as a tool for community assistance illustrates the power of connectivity in urgent situations involving missing children.
The incident highlights a prevalent safety issue for families with young children, the risk of little ones slipping away unnoticed can lead to potentially dangerous situations such as this. Fortunately, in this case, the communal effort and responsiveness of the Loganville Police Department have ensured a happy reunion between the child and her family. The Loganville PD continues to advise parents and guardians to take necessary precautions to prevent similar occurrences.
