Chaos hit the streets of Long Beach with back-to-back criminal incidents, sending the LBPD into action-packed responses. A burglary turned standoff led to SWAT intervention in the Summit Street area, while a separate sharp altercation punctuated the early hours on Atlantic Avenue with violence.
According to the Long Beach Police Department’s records, tensions flared on Feb. 21 when Samara Lenai Allen, 21, allegedly broke into a residence on the 1500 block of Summit Street. Once discovered, the intruder, identified as a person experiencing homelessness, decided to hold her ground inside. The standoff prompted calls for her to surrender, all falling on defiant ears, eventually bringing in the big guns as SWAT was deployed. In efforts hailed by official statements, Allen was taken into custody unscathed. LBPD reports inform that she faces charges of vandalism, resisting arrest, and burglary. Her bail fate hangs in the balance, pending a magistrate's review.
Not even a full day later, on Feb. 22, officers on patrol were drawn to a brawl in the blink of an eye at the 6500 block of Atlantic Avenue where they witnessed a confrontation turned physical. As the dust settled and the reality of the incident sank in, it became clear a stabbing had occurred. The victim, blessed with less than life-threatening wounds, defied the need for medical attention. Yet, the police swept into action, apprehending Laiandra Money Joshlin, 19, a Long Beach local, accusing her of the assault. The $50,000 bail tag is attached to her now as she navigates the judicial waters for an assault with a deadly weapon charge.
Both investigations remain very much alive, with the LBPD digging deeper for justice. The community holds its breath, betting on the resilience of law and order to ride out the storm of crime. Further information and updates are expected as the department progresses with their inquiries.
