In a brazen act of misconduct early this morning, Los Altos cops were summoned to the 900 block of San Antonio Rd, a site repeatedly besieged by mail thieves in recent weeks. The City of Los Altos Police Department reported that their officers, upon responding to an in-progress mail theft, encountered the suspects, leading to a sequence of events involving an intentional assault on law enforcement.
Officials stated that when police attempted to approach the suspect vehicle, the stationary culprits abruptly accelerated, cornering an officer within his patrol car's doorway and initiating a deliberate collision. Despite the aggressive confrontation, the police department confirmed, "Our officer is ok and is recovering." The suspects' vehicle eventually crashed in nearby Palo Alto, prompting a more extensive manhunt involving neighboring agencies.
The attempt to detain the suspects turned into a pursuit ending in a crash, after which the female driver was arrested while her male accomplice managed an escape. Despite an "exhaustive search" with the aid of Palo Alto PD and a Mountain View PD K9 unit, the male suspect remains at large. The Los Altos Police Department detailed the incident and stated the female suspect is now facing multiple felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
