A man has been nabbed for a fiery attack at a San Diego news station. On February 26, a suspect torched three vehicles, a security gate keypad, a sensor, and the entrance to the FOX 5 Studio on Engineer Road, San Diego, with surveillance cameras capturing part of the blaze. The San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) launched a probe into the incident.
In a stroke of luck, while an SDPD detective from MAST was scouring the area for the arsonist, a radio call led to the arrest of 41-year-old Dimitrius Cannon on February 28. Just before 9 a.m., in an unrelated incident near Clairemont Mesa Blvd., police detained the man matching the suspect's description, according to a statement obtained by the San Diego Police Department.
Cannon, tied to the arson at the local news outfit through evidence found on him, faces multiple arson charges. The police assert that the trespassed suspect involved in the undisclosed call was indeed the same man wanted for the fire-setting at Fox 5.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Metro Arson Strike Team at (619) 236-6815 or the anonymous tip line Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
