The Philadelphia police force has been plunged into a sweeping manhunt following the audacious escape of a prisoner from Temple University Episcopal Hospital early Monday. The escapee, identified as 29-year-old Alleem Bordan, managed to evade law enforcement officers at approximately 6:42 a.m. while being discharged, per the details shared by FOX 29. The public has been enlisted in the effort to apprehend Bordan, believed by the authorities to be still handcuffed when he took flight.
According to a report by The Inquirer, Bordan's captivity stemmed from a vehicle theft charge. His escape prompted immediate action from the Philadelphia Police Department, with a press conference scheduled for later in the day to provide further updates.
In what turned into an unsettling start to the week, local schools were placed on lockdown as officers combed the area for any sign of Bordan. While the lockdowns have been reported by 6ABC to be lifted since, the community remains on edge. Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore disclosed that despite the intensity of the search, Bordan remains at large.
"If a prisoner complains of pain or has an injury, it's our policy that we take them to a facility," said Vanore regarding the circumstances that brought Bordan to the hospital in the first place. While the authorities were tight-lipped on the specifics of Bordan's initial medical complaints, escaping still in the cuffs, the hunt intensifies with each passing hour. Bordan's last known address was on the 1300 block of North Allison Street, and the Philadelphia police have called upon anyone with information to come forward.
