A routine traffic stop in the small town of Carmine, Texas, took a turn for the felonious on Valentine's Day when a deputy uncovered a hidden handgun in the car of a local man. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office has reported that Deputy Seth Nagel made the stop around midday Wednesday for what appeared to be a minor traffic infraction.
According to the Sheriff's Office Facebook post, the subsequent search revealed a 9mm Glock 43X craftily concealed beneath the vehicle’s carpet. What may have been an ordinary traffic violation quickly escalated as the weapon was quickly identified as stolen property from Williamson County, Texas.
However, the discovery of the stolen handgun was not the end of the suspect's troubles. The man behind the wheel, identified as Kaliceon Lewis, a 23-year-old resident of Manor, Texas, carried the compounded burden of a prior conviction that legally barred him from firearm possession.
With the gun's illicit lineage confirmed and the specter of a felon in possession, Lewis faced arrest and charges that included the Theft of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. CBS Austin highlighted that this Valentine's Day incident will be one that Lewis is sure to remember for all the wrong reasons.
