Marietta Fire Department Honors Bravery with 'Firefighter of the Year' and 'Medal of Merit' AwardsSource: City of Marietta Official Website

The Marietta Fire Department took a moment to salute their own last Friday, recognizing the grit and sacrifices of their most outstanding public servants in an annual ceremonial nod to excellence. A dispatch from the department's official website details the celebration that took place on February 17,  where heroes donning helmets and turnout gear traded them in, momentarily, for plaques and handshakes.

A standout among the honored was Michael Austin, who made two trips up to the stage, snagging both the 'Firefighter of the Year' and the 'Medal of Merit' awards. Others recognized included Richard Wheat, a Metro EMS instructor who was handed the Appreciation Award, and the unsung heroes of the City of Marietta Fleet Maintenance, also on the receiving end of an Appreciation Award. Bobby Moss was named 'Officer of the Year,' while Ben Eidson took home the title of 'Firefighter Engineer of the Year.' and the newcomer, Brandon Johnson, made his mark as the 'Rookie of the Year.'

The Marietta Fire Department's post spotlighted the true embodiment of public service that these individuals offer day in and day out. The ceremony stands as a small token of gratitude to all fire department employees.
