Early Sunday morning, a camper became a crime scene when a Minneapolis man and his dog were left seriously injured following a shooting incident. According to FOX 9, the shots rang out around 8:15 a.m. along Thomas Avenue North, near North 14th Avenue, disrupting the quiet of the waking neighborhood.
Authorities said that the man, in his 40s, along with a woman and their dog, were inside the vehicle when someone approached, firing shots after opening the door. The incident resulted in the man sustaining potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds, and despite the firearm violence that erupted, the woman, fortunately, walked away unharmed.
The wounded man was immediately rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center for urgent treatment, while the injured canine was taken in by Minneapolis Animal Control, as reported by KSTP. The nature of the dog's injuries, although serious, has not been detailed.
While details continue to unravel, preliminary information suggests that the victims knew their assailants. The Minneapolis Police Department is on the case, trying to piece together the circumstances that led up to this violent disruption of life and pet ownership. As of the latest update, there have been no arrests made in connection to the shooting.
