Minneapolis residents have until tomorrow, February 13, to pre-register for the upcoming presidential primary, slated for March 5. According to the city officials, registering ahead of the big day is intended to streamline voting, cutting down the wait times at polling stations and negating the necessity for on-the-spot document presentation.
Voting can also be done on election day in Minnesota, however, the City of Minneapolis is pushing for early registration to avoid the last-minute rush, individual voters can sign up online up until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow or hand-deliver their paper registrations to election offices by 5 p.m.; meanwhile, those unsure about their registration status can confirm it online ensuring they're prepped for the election.
For those who miss the pre-registration bus, they're not out of options as same-day registration is available either at the Early Vote Center or at the polling place on Election Day, although they must present proof of residence to do so.
Early birds are already casting their votes, with early voting for the March 5 presidential primary already underway, ballots can be mailed or directly delivered to the Early Vote Center located at 980 East Hennepin Ave.; just remember all mail-in ballots need to be properly received by March 5 to be considered valid, and the city logistic recommendation is clear – request your mail ballot by the latest this Tuesday, Feb. 27 and drop it in the mail by Friday, March 1 to avoid any postal delays.
For those who prefer the personal touch, completed mail ballots can also be returned to the Elections & Voter Services office by hand, keep in mind though, 8 p.m. on primary day is the cutoff. Remember, dropping your mail ballot at your local polling place on Election Day is not an option. For detailed instructions on how to vote by mail, visit Minneapolis elections info page.
