In a long-awaited break in a heart-wrenching case, a Mississippi man has been arrested for his alleged role in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of Arlington police veteran Darrin McMichael, authorities say.
Twenty-six-year-old Quintairo Watson faces charges relating to the September 2023 crash that occurred on I-20 in Dallas County, taking the life of Officer McMichael, a 24-year member of the Arlington Police Department, FOX 4 News reported. The tragedy unfolded as traffic suddenly slowed, causing McMichael to bump into the vehicle ahead, subsequently, he fell from his police motorcycle, and an SUV, purportedly driven by Watson, struck him and fled the scene, with the harrowing incident witnessed by McMichael's wife who was following in a separate car.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Arlington PD's persistent detectives, committed to never letting the case grow cold, culminated in the arrest by the U.S. Marshals Task Force after Watson was pegged as the suspect, with cell tower data and testimony from a parolee contributing to the breakthrough. Watson, hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, is reportedly being held on a $100,000 bond.
"It was a never-ending thing for the investigators, this was never going to be a cold case for them," Dallas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Sisk told FOX 4, adding, "There’s an arrest made due to the diligence and the tenacity of the detectives to bring a close to the end of this case."
