Around 35 roosters were seized from the site located at 3090 Dry Creek Road in Lockhart, as per the sheriff's officials. In addition to the arrests, law enforcement authorities towed away 20 vehicles and a trailer, reported CBS Austin.
The bust occurred on Sunday, February 18, and forced the sheriff's office to advise the local community to avoid the area, reflecting the extent of the operation. Items indicative of gambling activities were also found, including a board that tracked the outcomes of the bird battles, a detail shared by Fox News, which noted the previous occurrence of 44 matches earlier that day.
The confiscated roosters' fate remains uncertain, prompting CBS Austin to reach out to the Lockhart Animal Shelter to determine whether the birds were transported there for treatment and care. In an unrelated but poignant incident, Fox News recounted a tragic event in Ireland, where a man was fatally injured by a rooster after it had already shown aggressive behavior towards a child. The man, Jasper Kraus, was discovered in a pool of blood, the victim of a fatal wound inflicted by the notorious Brahma chicken.
