Tragedy struck in Del Rey, Los Angeles, early Tuesday morning as a massive house fire claimed the life of one person and left another fighting for survival in critical condition. Flames overtook a single-story residence near Culver City, with first responders rushing to the scene at approximately 6:14 a.m.
Responding units from the Los Angeles Fire Department and Culver City Fire Department worked tirelessly to quickly get control of the inferno, which had engulfed the home located at 4918 Sycamore Drive. Despite initial reports indicating that the home was vacant, firefighters, after extinguishing the blaze, discovered two individuals inside—one later pronounced dead and the other transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, as per details reported by CBS News.
The operation involved a substantial effort from both fire departments, requiring about 37 firefighters and approximately 40 minutes to contain the fiery outbreak. A primary search, initially finding nothing, was followed by a secondary search that revealed the two victims. The roof's collapse was identified as the cause of one fatality, with the second victim suffering from severe burn injuries, according to information shared by KTLA.
This incident caused more than just structural damage, as smoke from the fire was visibly dense enough to disrupt traffic flow on the nearby 405 Freeway. Sky5 footage showed billowing smoke that led to a temporary delay for northbound drivers coming from the 91 Freeway.
