A fatal collision involving a school bus and multiple vehicles left one person dead and two others injured in Collin County, Texas. The accident transpired before the evening rush on Wednesday on the Long Bridge at FM 3286 in Lucas.
Emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene, and Lucas Fire authorities confirmed to FOX 4 News that one person tragically was killed in the crash. Two individuals were subsequently transported to a hospital. Their conditions are currently undisclosed. The bridge was closed for traffic to adequately allow investigators to carefully piece together the events of the calamity.
According to NBC DFW, the Collin County Sheriff's Office said the crash involved a Princeton ISD school bus and at least two other vehicles. A commercial van, a Jeep, and a red Nissan sedan were stationary at the site as observed from aerial footage. There were nine high school students on the bus, per a statement by the Princeton ISD, and one of these students was evaluated and released by paramedics on the scene. The rest of the students, alongside the bus driver, were unharmed but were placed on another bus and sent home.
This incident marks the second fatal accident in two days with school transportation involved. The previous day, a motorcyclist was killed after their bike collided with the rear of a Fort Worth ISD school bus. As the community grapples with this series of tragic events, officials work to unravel the specific causes that led to this latest incident. The investigation into the crash has been handed over to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The sheriff's office has yet to predict when the Long Bridge will reopen to traffic.
