Tragedy struck San Jose when a shooting in a bustling parking lot claimed one life and left two others wounded. The San Jose Police Department reported the incident occurred on February 18, in the 3000 block of Story Road, where officers rushed to the scene around 8:53 PM after receiving reports of gunfire. What they found was chaos riddled with bullets, with two victims bleeding out amid a crowd.
Despite quick action by officers attempting life-saving measures, the male victim's injuries proved terminal, and he was pronounced dead on the scene. The female, however, fought valiantly for her life, was whisked away to a local hospital, and is now battling dire conditions in critical care. Later, it was discovered another female had been shot; she arrived independently at a hospital, nursing non-life-threatening wounds, according to the San José Police Department.
The heinous act marked the city's 7th homicide for the new year, igniting concerns over public safety. As detectives scoured the scene, piecing together available evidence, the motive for the shooting still elided capture – wrapped in the shroud of ongoing investigations. The identity of the deceased is withheld, awaiting confirmation and next of kin notification by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.
Seeking aid from the public, Detective Estantino #4339 and Detective Harrington #4365 urged witnesses to come forward with any relevant information. Community members can share tips via email, the P3TIPS mobile app, or the Crime Stoppers hotline. Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers has implied that a cash reward is in the cards for information paving the way for an arrest.
