In a recent swoop on an illegal animal facility in Compton, CA, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) joined forces with the District Attorney's Office to rescue 143 animals, including a menagerie of dogs, cats, chickens, a horse, and even a hawk, reports revealed last Wednesday.
Following a litany of complaints alleging neglect at the so-called Compton Animal Rescue, DACC, alongside the bureau's investigative unit, executed three search warrants and discovered a grim scene: 13 dead animals and others suffering to the point of necessitating humane euthanasia, the rescue operation stemming from the rescue group falling afoul of state and county regulations because they didn't comply with the standards set for animal care.
The seized animals, after being placed under an evidence hold, received medical care and evaluations at various DACC centers while the District Attorney prepped investigative reports, and as of now, well over 100 critters have been cleared for adoption, according to an official announcement on the LA County website.
"DACC will always act when the health and safety of animals is at risk," DACC's Director Marcia Mayeda stated, pointing to a brighter future as these animals are now slated for swift placement in loving homes - an optimistic turn of leaf after what one can only imagine were harrowing conditions prior," reports further explained how once suitability for adoption is evaluated these animals will become publicly available for adoption and can be viewed at DACC’s "View Our Animals" page.
Angelenos with a heart for neglected or mistreated animals are encouraged not only to adopt but also to stay vigilant, reporting any suspected cruelty to DACC and for more information, follow the DACC on Instagram and Facebook.
