Christmas came late but just as sweet for a Plano resident whose stolen property was returned by local detectives. In a twist of fate courtesy of forensic evidence and vigilant police work, Michael McCloud, 37, has been identified as the alleged "porch pirate" who had been stealing packages from Plano doorsteps.
According to the Plano Texas Police Department, the Vehicle Crimes Unit meticulously assembled evidence against McCloud, which led to a search and arrest warrant. He now faces charges of package theft and breaking into vehicles.
When authorities searched McCloud's home, they discovered the stolen items, including a unique cat shirt meant to warm a resident's heart. The detectives made sure the item was returned to its rightful owner, re-wrapped as though Christmas morning was not stolen away by the Grinch who pilfered porches.
The successful return of the stolen goods was a community affair, as locals played a part by providing the tips that would eventually piece together the suspect's identity. The Plano Texas Police Department thanked the community for their involvement and stated, "The detective delivered their re-wrapped stolen package," acknowledging the happy conclusion to an unfortunate series of thefts.
