Chaos hit Studio City on Sunday evening as a sudden debris flow damaged two homes and forced the evacuation of residents along Lockridge Rd. The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the scene at 9:08 PM to confront the aftermath of the flow that spilled into the street. According to a LAFD alert, firefighters sprung into action, assisting residents of at least six homes to evacuate in response to the potential threat of further soil instability.
The immediate response by LAFD also involved Heavy Equipment operators who arrived to manage the soil and debris. “Thankfully, no one was injured, however residents will be displaced,” said the alert, highlighting a night that could have taken a much darker turn. The Red Cross was notified to assist those in need of shelter, as these individuals now face the uncertainty of displacement.
In a follow-up report, the Fire Department updated that by 11:25 PM, 16 residents had been helped to safer ground from Lockridge Rd, where a total of nine homes were evacuated, pets included. Coordination between the LAPD and EMD ensured that emergency shelter locations were made available for those affected.
The Department of Building and Safety was called in to assess the potential risks to the area's infrastructure, with the DWP and Gas Company also evaluating the impact to utilities. “All nine homes on Lockridge Rd have been evacuated,” the LAFD confirmed, punctuating a night of community disruption and articulated response to the unforeseen natural event.
