
A Riverside cemetery was the recent target of a hefty burglary, with crooks making off with over $20,000 in maintenance equipment. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the heist happened Sunday night in the 22000 block of Van Buren Boulevard.
The Sheriff's Perris Station Robbery Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) launched into action, scrounging up leads on the burglary. Their investigation led them to one, Kevin Mateas, aged 28, hailing from Mead Valley. Mateas, who had a prior charge and was out on bail, was nabbed by the law on Friday afternoon during a search warrant executed by RBST, Perris City Special Enforcement, and Perris Gang Task Force.
Mateas is now cooling his heels at the Cois Byrd Detention Center, charged with burglary, felony vandalism, and committing a felony while out on bail. As the RBST continues to chase down the second suspect, no further details have been released about the ongoing investigation.
