Thieves in Rohnert Park got more than they bargained for when their suspected fuel heist turned into a police bust. Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Officers swiftly swooped in on a suspicious duo caught siphoning gasoline in broad daylight.
The fiasco unfolded in a parking lot on the 5700 block of Commerce Blvd after a vigilant citizen dialed 911, worried over sketchy behavior and recent thefts in the area. As reported by Rohnert Park Police & Fire Facebook page, the arriving officers didn't have to look far, as they found gasoline gushing from under a van, and two individuals, a man and a woman, lurking nearby.
The man, fessing up to drilling the van's gas tank, was caught red-handed, with evidence dripping all over him. Both suspects were handcuffed and now face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit theft, vandalism, and possession of burglary tools and stolen property. The woman had additional headaches in the form of three outstanding warrants from other cities.
The police gave props to the whistle-blower, reminding locals "Never hesitate to call us for assistance. Your safety is our priority." This caper is a clear testament to the power of community policing, and the suspects are now awaiting trial at Sonoma County Jail..
