San Antonio is on alert for congestion this Saturday as the city prepares to honor the late Robert D. Gaylor, the fifth Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. A procession is slated to kick off around noon from JBSA-Lackland, heading towards the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, as per an announcement by Joint Base San Antonio officials.
While celebrating Gaylor's legacy, city drivers should brace for backups especially along US Highway 90 eastbound and US Highway 281 northbound between the morning and early afternoon. "There is a potential for increased traffic," warned the 502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs. Paying respects, the series of about 40 vehicles will create a thread connecting the military community from the memorial service at the Gateway Chapel to the burial ground where full military honors will await the former sergeant.
The tribute for Gaylor is set to commence with a service at the Gateway Chapel on JBSA-Lackland from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by the interment ceremony at 1:30 p.m. The Public Affairs office has made it known that those seeking further details can reach out by phone at 210-984-0582.
San Antonians have a history of showing up for their own, and this military tribute is expected to draw locals in numbers, lining the streets to salute a storied career. As reported by FOX San Antonio, the procession is approximately four vehicles long, a symbol of respect for a man who dedicated his life to service and the principles of the Air Force.
