Tragedy struck on a San Antonio community as Joshua Castro, an 18-year-old high school student at Chavez Excel Academy, was arrested on charges of capital murder in connection to the deaths of a local father and son duo, police announced on Wednesday. According to KENS 5, the suspect was taken into custody at the school, situated within the Holmes High School campus with the aid of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and NISD officers.

The violent episode that culminated in the fatal shootings happened on December 6, last year at a convenience store parking lot in the 9000 block of Potranco Road, the victims were identified as 34-year-old Raymond Ancira and 15-year-old Raymond Alexander Ancira, with surveillance footage implicating Castro and fellow suspect Sebastian Toledo, 18, in what was meant to be a firearm exchange, shots were fired resulting in the Ancira's tragic demise, KSAT reported. Toledo, who was also linked to the crime, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Monday, during an encounter with SWAT officers serving an unrelated warrant, detailed in a report by KSAT.

Investigations unveiled that social media postings by the suspects suggested they intended to rob the victims during the supposed weapons transaction, and police are taking this digital trail into account. Castro now faces the grim prospect of answering to two charges of capital murder in the deaths of the Anciras. At the time of his apprehension, in a statement broadcasted by the media, the teen asserted he was "not a murderer" and expressed his love for his family.

As the community reels from the appalling incident, authorities are considering the possibility of other suspects still at large in this case, urging anyone with information to step forward, to contribute to the ongoing pursuit of justice it is with heavy hearts that detectives continue to unravel the grim details of that fateful December day.
