In collaboration with Capital Area Rural Transportation Systems (CARTS), San Marcos now ensures that commuters can stay connected on the go without disrupting their daily digital routines. As reported by the San Marcos Record, MiFi hotspot devices have been installed on all SMTX The Bus fixed routes, including the Interurban 1517 commuter route between Austin and San Marcos.
"We are excited to provide free Wi-Fi to our transit passengers," said Transit Manager Amy Cogdill in the announcement. The move is a play to up the ante for convenience on public transit, and Cogdill hopes this tech upgrade will draw more riders. According to a Facebook post by the City of San Marcos, in an effort to make riding The Bus more aligned with modern commuter needs, these enhancements were considered a necessary upgrade.
Last year, The Bus provided over 92,000 rides and covered more than 342,000 miles. It's a substantial figure that reflects the importance of public transportation within the community's daily fabric. The free Wi-Fi is expected to build on this as it introduces an element of productivity and connectivity for riders.

The City's official page reminds commuters that The Bus runs Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., cementing itself as a mainstay in the lives of many.
