A string of early morning break-ins on the serene streets of Belmont Shore has finally come to a culminating point as law enforcement put the cuffs on one man. In the pre-dawn hours of February 6, vigilant Long Beach officers, on a routine patrol, stumbled upon a scene of forced entries at multiple commercial locations along 2nd Street. The discovery revealed a total of six businesses with doors pried open, evidence of a burglar's recent visit.
Long Beach detectives wasted no time to swiftly gather clues, tapping into the digital eye of security cameras, which ultimately led them to pinpoint Kevin Scott Plunkett as the individual responsible for the crime spree. Plunkett, a 35-year-old San Pedro resident, was not at liberty to continue his escapades for long. On February 7, just a day following the patrol discovery, authorities tracked down and arrested the man accused they now to have executed a series of calculated thefts.
Details released by the Long Beach Police Department outline the affected addresses - including 4705, 4713, 4801, 4818, and 5211 E 2nd Street, and 5305 E 2nd Street #103 – all bearing the scars of Plunkett’s alleged intrusion. In response to these incidents, the East Division's commanding officers and the Neighborhood Safety Bike Team mobilized, amplifying their presence in Belmont Shore and touching base with local businesses to discuss safety measures.
Now behind bars, Plunkett awaits the assigned bail that is to be determined during his magistrate review. Charged with six counts of burglary, the future looks bleak for the suspect who allegedly chose to pilfer through the businesses of his neighboring city.
