Santa Clarita Springs into Season with Sports Programs for All AgesSource: Google Street View

Spring is in the air, and Santa Clarita is buzzing with the sound of sports. From tiny tots learning the ropes to adults maintaining their competitive streak, the city is offering a diverse selection of sports programs and activities for everyone looking to play. City Manager Ken Striplin, doubling as a youth sports coach, knows the score. The city's Seasons magazine touts offerings like baseball, flag football, and the return of girls' softball leagues. Striplin says, “As a youth sports coach myself, I understand the importance and positive effects sports can have on our children and teens.”

Keeping the little ones in motion, the All Sorts of Sports program introduces children as young as three to team sports over six weeks. Meanwhile, for those constant companions with the latest smartphones, the city has gamified exploration and learning. According to the city's announcement, the Agents of Discovery app sends families on an adventure across the city's open spaces, spicing up hikes with fire safety and nature trivia that make the most of Santa Clarita's scenic views.

Adults haven't been left on the bench, with the city's rollout of spring basketball and volleyball leagues gearing up for registration next week. And for those who prefer less structure, drop-in clinics for ultimate frisbee on Tuesdays and soccer on Wednesdays at Central Park fit perfectly into busy schedules. Disc golfers can look forward to the challenging 18-hole course also located at Central Park, which Striplin said comes with “challenging terrain and upgraded equipment.”

Mark your calendars for a series of upcoming tournaments that promise some heated competition. The Pickleball Tournament swings into action on March 9 at Bouquet Canyon Park while volleyball and basketball enthusiasts can showcase their skills on March 17 and March 23 respectively at the Sports Complex. Striplin encourages residents to “find a new hobby, sport or activity to try.” With SoCal's springtime allure and a buffet of activities, Santa Clarita seems intent on keeping its community engaged, active, and connected through sports.
