A discovery has ruffled the serenity of a Saugus neighborhood where human skeletal remains were found in the woods, local officials confirmed. A person out for a mundane walk with their dog stumbled upon the remains near Davis Drive on Sunday morning, leading to an investigation by state and local police.

Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker and Saugus Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli stated that, at this point, there is no belief of a threat to the public, as mentioned in a statement obtained by NBC Boston

Residents of the cul-de-sac expressed their disbelief and unease to NBC Boston. "I’ve never seen anybody back there. The only thing back there is coyotes from what I know, but somebody’s been back there," resident Matthew McKenzie said.

According to details provided by CBS Boston, the medical examiner has taken custody of the remains to assist in identification and to determine the timeframe the body might have been in the woods. Neighbor Joe Lorusso conveyed his surprise to CBS Boston, saying, "It's pretty surprising, I guess. We've been here for eight years, like I said, nothing usually happens. It's quiet, so who knows what it will actually be,"

The case has prompted an intensive investigative response, and authorities are working to piece together the identity and cause of death.
