SeaWorld San Antonio is set to make a splash with the launch of Catapult Falls, touted as the world's first launched flume coaster. Announcing its grand debut on March 2, just in time for the Spring Break crowd, the park is rolling out the barrels with a ride featuring the steepest drop found on any flume ride to date. According to KSAT, the park gates swing open at 10:30 a.m., while the fanfare of a grand opening ceremony kicks off at 11:30 a.m.
Building the hype, SeaWorld has promised an exclusive sneak peek for SeaWorld Pass Members, with dates to be announced. This early access offers pass holders a shot at the thrills before the general public takes the plunge. As reported by Fox San Antonio, the first 500 riders at the official opening will score special Catapult Falls-themed silicone pint glasses, a nod to the ride's inaugural pour.
Combining the elements of a coaster and boat ride, Catapult Falls promises to elevate heart rates and induce screams with a 55-foot vertical lift and a descent dropping at a steep 53 degrees. Riders can anticipate a speed of over 37 miles per hour, completing their experience with a dramatic drenching of the spectators below.
The ride sports 11 boats each anchoring eight passengers, and is North America's sole flume ride to boast a vertical lift - moving riders skyward at a zip of seven feet per second. In a statement obtained by KSAT, the addition of a vertical lift is a first of its kind in North America for a flume ride. SeaWorld San Antonio initially slated Catapult Falls for a summer 2023 release but decided to push the launch to the spring of 2024, injecting some much-needed thrill into the forthcoming beach season.
For theme park enthusiasts looking to turn the fun up a notch, SeaWorld is baiting the hook with irresistible offers on passes. Season or Annual Pass holders are treated to unlimited access, free parking and additional perks to enjoy through SeaWorld, and Aquatica. As part of a limited-time promotion, buyers of the SeaWorld Pass will bag a complimentary season of Aquatica, sweetening the deal for families and fun-seekers alike.
