A sharp-eyed Sonoma deputy nabbed a suspect who was on the lam, connected to a string of crimes spanning multiple counties last Sunday. Angel Rojas, 22, from Sonoma, was apprehended after a deputy spotted him and another man standing in a carport in Sonoma Valley, igniting a chase that had deputies hot on his trail.

The incident occurred on the 18000 block of Riverside Dr. around 1 PM, where Rojas, the suspect, attempted to quickly get away, only to lead deputies on a tireless ½ mile foot pursuit through the neighborhood. His accomplice, Dainer Cordova, 30, tried to throw off deputies by blocking them, but eventually, additional law enforcement arrived and managed to safely catch Rojas on El Dorado Dr.

According to a Facebook post by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, deputies attempted to contact Rojas, who had four previous probation violations and was wanted for crimes including a stolen vehicle and credit card, among others. When the deputies approached Rojas, he fled on foot, prompting the chase.

Back at the scene, Cordova responded to none of the deputies' orders. When they tried to detain him for obstruction, he resisted, still deputies managed to take him into custody without further issues. Both men were then transported to the Sonoma Valley substation for processing. Rojas faces a slew of charges, including felony and misdemeanor violation of probation and resisting arrest, along with pending charges from Marin County and Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

Rojas is now behind bars in the Main Adult Detention Facility, held without bail, as detailed by Deputy Rob Dillion, Public Information Officer. Meanwhile, Cordova got booked on charges of resisting arrest and has been released with a notice to appear in court. The arrest of Rojas cleared the deck for ongoing investigations in other jurisdictions.
