A high-speed chase in Monroe County has ended with multiple arrests, including a 46-year-old South Lyon man, Kevin Gaschler, who fled from police at speeds reaching up to 130 mph. The man is now facing felony charges for speeding away from a traffic stop and plunging into the woods, according to WWJ Newsradio.
The chase started early Saturday morning when Gaschler was pulled over by a Flat Rock officer for multiple traffic violations but he sped off as the officer returned to his patrol car after collecting Gaschler’s driver's license, events escalated quickly despite the officer cutting the chase near Exit 9 on SB I-75 upon acquiring a positive ID of the driver. The Oakland Press reports that after abandoning his vehicle, Gaschler attempted to escape on foot but was located by a police service dog named Arlo and arrested without further incident.
In a related series of events, a dramatic encounter involved two teenagers in a stolen vehicle ending their unauthorized joyride on the front lawn of a residential home, as reported by BNN Breaking. A 13-year-old driver and his 14-year-old passenger led police on a wild chase before crashing, with the youth detainees now facing grave allegations in juvenile court.
Gaschler was arraigned in 36th District Court on one charge of fleeing and eluding police, "a two-year felony," receiving a $50,000 personal bond with a mandatory GPS tether, the ordeal sheds light on the risks associated with high-speed pursuits and the strain it places on local law enforcement agencies tasked with ensuring public safety and apprehending those who flout the rules set by society.
