A South St. Paul family is grappling with the aftermath of a devastating hit-and-run incident that left father and local resident Luke Bollman severely injured. The 41-year-old was discovered by police last Saturday night, lying in the street, on Concord Street in South St. Paul. Bollman sustained multiple injuries, including a brain bleed and broken bones and is now on a ventilator, with his condition remaining critical, according to CBS News Minnesota.
Bollman's family is anxiously seeking answers as South St. Paul’s police department, aided by the Minnesota State Patrol, continues their search to rapidly identify and arrest the driver responsible for the incident. No whereabouts of the suspect are currently known. "Pretty much still in shock, the whole family, it's been a lot of stress on us all week," Paul Bollman, Luke Bollman's father, told CBS News Minnesota.
As investigators work to piece together the events leading up to Bollman's injuries, there remains uncertainty around the circumstances of his presence on the road. Police Chief Brian Wicke said , "We're still trying to determine why the victim was in the travel lane. We have no idea if he was trying to cross the road or what was taking place," as stated in the Twin Cities.
Authorities currently hold incomplete details regarding a vehicle they believe was present at the scene but have stopped short of releasing a description, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, as Chief Wicke explained to Twin Cities. The lack of definitive evidence has stymied efforts to quickly resolve the case.
The South St. Paul police department and the Minnesota State Patrol are urging anyone with information on the accident to come forward and assist in the investigation. The police can be contacted at the dedicated phone number 651-413-8300.
