Mesquite, Texas just scored a big splash with its new Mesquite Natatorium, which opened doors to the public on February 12. This state-of-the-art swimming facility is the peppery result of an incredible partnership triad: the City of Mesquite, Mesquite Independent School District (ISD), and Dallas College - Eastfield Campus. Officials from the three organizations celebrated the ribbon-cutting on February 9th, showcasing a revamped aquatic venue poised to make a positive splash on the community, according to the City of Mesquite, Texas.
The natatorium, which had its former life as the aquatic center of Dallas College Eastfield Campus, has been decked out with fresh amenities. At a time when urban pools are more often news for closures than launches, Mesquite bucks the trend. Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. said in celebration, "At a time when cities across the country are closing public pools due to a lack of funding and staffing, we are very excited to be able to provide this space." He extended his gratitude for the collaborative spirit that brought the project to life, per the City of Mesquite, Texas.
Key features marking the upgrade at the Mesquite Natatorium included expanded pool width, two diving boards, and a mix of both 25-yard and 25-meter swim lanes. The pool also touts depths that dive from 3.6 feet to an Olympic feel of 12.5 feet, ensuring both learners and leap-takers are accommodated. While a new tile and updated pool finish give the space a sleek look, competitive swimmers will note the installation of a Myrtha gutter system primed for racing.
But perhaps, it's the transformative transparent OpenAire aluminum structure that stands as the facility's innovative crown jewel. Mesquite ISD Superintendent Dr. Ángel Rivera told the release, "We are proud to offer this state-of-the-art facility to our students and community members, and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on our community." This design marvel opens up to bless swimmers with sun-lit strokes during favorable weather, although rendering an outdoor pool experience, as per the City of Mesquite, Texas.
The early birds, the Mesquite ISD swim team, have been breaking waves at the natatorium since last month, setting the pace for others to follow. Natives can look forward to the Mesquite Marlins swim team making their moves there too. Besides athlete use, the facilities are scheduled for swim lessons, water aerobics, lap swimming, and open swims available to the public on weekends.
