Chaos erupted in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood when a stolen car with three juveniles went airborne and flipped after slamming into another vehicle, according to police. The dramatic crash happened on December 7, 2023, just as the evening rush was winding down around Swift Avenue South.
The Seattle Police Department said that moments before the crash occurred, at around 7:30 p.m., the juveniles in the stolen car collided with the rear end of a Toyota, then ricocheted into a police cruiser before overturning. The juveniles, whose ages and identities have not been disclosed, managed to escape the incident with only minor injuries, Seattle PD's official blog reported.
The Seattle Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene to evaluate the suspects and the driver of the Toyota, who all sustained minor injuries in the unexpected turn of events. During the on-scene investigation, officers uncovered a concerning find—a pistol equipped with a 30-round extended magazine was retrieved from the crash site.
Further probing into the situation by the police revealed that the stolen car had been driving on a compromised tire from a previous encounter, where a spike strip had been deployed by another law enforcement agency. After temporarily being held back, for medical assessments at Seattle Children’s Hospital, the two juveniles were taken to the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center. They now face serious allegations including auto theft, and unlawful firearm possession according to Seattle PD's blog post.
All three suspects were initially held in custody after the accident, but one was subsequently released to a family member, suggests the official police report.
