A convenience store in Bellingham, Massachusetts, became the scene of an armed robbery that set off a high-speed police pursuit, crossing state lines into Rhode Island on Saturday night. The Bellingham Police observed a man acting suspiciously, entering a vehicle quickly outside the store just as a robbery report was ringing in. According to NBC10 Boston, officers gave chase after discovering the vehicle was listed as stolen.
The pursuit tore through Blackstone and eventually led into Woonsocket, Rhode Island, where the suspect's vehicle became incapacitated after crashing into two other vehicles. The driver then fled on foot. A police officer took notice of a man running into a car just as the robbery report surfaced, setting in motion the chase. Woonsocket Police assisted in the chase around 6:49 p.m., locating the vehicle at 267 Rathbun Street, where the suspect abandoned the moving car at the intersection of Rathbun and George streets, as Woonsocket's Police Chief mentioned to NBC10 Boston.
The end of the chase found the abandoned stolen vehicle, which will be processed for investigative leads. WWLP reports that, despite the apprehension of the vehicle, the suspect managed to evade capture and remains at large. Furthermore, no firearm has been recovered from the incident, but no injuries have been reported in the dangerous chase.
Authorities encourage any individual with information related to the robbery or the suspects' whereabouts to contact local law enforcement. As the search for the armed suspect continues, no additional details regarding their identity or the specifics of what was taken during the robbery have been released to the public at the time. The investigation is ongoing as per statements obtained by local sources.
